What is it doing?
Transfers are an essential part of day to day inventory management if you're part of a chain and allowed to "borrow" inventory from your neighboring locations.
In MarketMan, you can initiate a transfer from each direction (ask for items to be delivered, or enter the details of a delivery you sent) and you can transfer anything you need- inventory, batch recipes (=subs/preps) and even final menu items.
Why should I use it?
- Transfers provide the tracking of inventory movements between locations, so when you're looking at the COGs and other reports, you'll see the accurate expenses with transfers included.
- Handling all transfers in MarketMan helps you control the available items for transfer and keep the assortments enforced at all times.
- Running the transfers report at the end of the week / month will help you identify locations that might need help with following their ordering procedures, or updating their pars.
This helps you stay in front of the problems and identify an issue before it's affecting your COGs significantly.
HOW TO REQUEST A TRANSFER - Step by Step
Transfers are done ONLY in the locations. In HQ you have available the transfers report for review.
When you REQUEST a transfer, it means you're asking another location for help with some items you need. When they get your request, they will be able make their decisions of what and how much to send you, by editing the quantities and sending you what they can spare.
- Go to "Inventory" > "Internal transfers"
The first tab (automatically opens) is the incoming tab. - On the list, you can see any open requests you might have waiting for you to receive as well.
To create a new request you need now, click on "Request a transfer" - On the transfer page, you first need to select the location you're requesting the items from.
Once you select a location, the item list will load, based on the shared items between you two.
This is also where you can change the requested delivery date: - Once the items are loaded to view, you can search for any item you need,
Or sort the items by type (purchase for inventory, sub/prep for your batch items) category or storage areas: - Entering the quantities you need is very similar to our waste events or inventory counts.
You'll add numbers in the units you need, and MarketMan will calculate the total requested and the estimated value. - To review the request before you're sending it, click on "View draft" at the top right
From there, click on "Edit" if you need to change / add anything,
Or click on "Place request" to send it out. - Once you send the request, the manager in the fulfilling location will get the request and send you whatever they can spare.
Once they confirm their sent transfer, it's important you come back here and click "Receive" to confirm that you got the items and initiate the inventory depletion.
The status would say "Transfer received"

- Go to "Inventory" > "Internal transfers"

Check the status column of your transfer - and click on "receive now" - The transfer details will show - so you could check the items and confirm you received everything.

Once confirmed all items arrived safely, just click "receive transfer" to finalize this inventory movement and increase your on-hand levels accordingly.
HOW TO - On the app!
To make things easy, on the app you're only sending transfers, and we're skipping the "request" part.
- Click on "Transfers"
- Then click on "Add transfer"
- From the drop-down list, select the location you are sending the products to.
The edit the date, and add any comments if needed. - It's time to enter the details of the items you're sending!
You can search for the item name, or just scroll down the list and click on the +/-
When you're done just click "Send"!
Extra tips - from the experts!
- You can click "View by items" if you prefer to view the transfer by a list of items, instead of one overall transfer. You can switch back and forth by viewing by items and transfers by clicking that button!
- If you're taking requests in advance for your batch recipes, you can use the incoming requests as a production sheet!
Click on "view by items" to see the list of items that were requested and the total quantities needed.
Then click on the printer icon if you'd like to print this sheet for the kitchen.

I got the wrong item as part of a transfer, what now?
Sometimes when you are receiving a transfer you get the wrong amount or wrong item entirely.
There are two ways to handle this in MarketMan:
- Reject the transfer
Do this if it is only if it's only a few items, as you'll need to request the transfer again (or ask the other location to send a new one) - Accept the transfer and transfer one / few items back
If it is a long list of items, the best thing to do is accept the transfer.
Imagine it is an order from a supplier and you got the wrong thing. You will probably accept the order and just send back that item! We'll do the same in MarketMan.
- Accept the transfer
- Create a new "send transfer" of the item back to the fulfiller
